A Recurring Problem
Ever since I started law school, one situation has kept coming up.
Whenever a friend, relative, or someone close to me receives a court notice, learns that they are involved in a legal case, or needs to deal with a legal document, I get a message:
“Lucas, what should I do?”
“Is this serious?”
“Do I need to respond right away?”
“Is there a deadline I need to meet?”
“Could you take a quick look?”
The famous “quick look,” naturally, is almost never just a quick look.
Even for me, now in the second half of my degree, these small favors often require careful reading, context, and analysis.
It is difficult to give a responsible answer without understanding the documents involved, the current stage of the case, and the particular circumstances of each situation.
Yet most of the time, people are not looking for an in-depth legal analysis.
They want to understand what happened, where the case currently stands, and whether there is any action they need to take.
Above all, they want to understand.
This kind of uncertainty points to an issue that goes beyond legal language. The law is present in family relationships, employment, contracts, consumer matters, and virtually every aspect of life in society.
However, when it becomes more immediate—especially through court proceedings—it is still perceived by many people as something distant and difficult to follow.
This does not mean that everyone should master laws, procedures, or legal strategies. Law is a technical field, and the work of qualified professionals is indispensable.
But there is a difference between knowing the law in depth and being able to follow a situation that affects your own life.
A court notice rarely arrives at a peaceful moment. The person receiving it is usually already worried about the dispute, its possible consequences, and the decisions they may need to make.
When lengthy documents, deadlines, and unfamiliar case developments are added to that situation, even relatively simple information can become intimidating.
Many problems do not arise because people do not care or have been negligent, but simply because they do not know what they should be looking for.
It was this gap that gave rise to Dra. Legal.
A Platform Designed for Those Navigating the Legal Process
Developed by Beyonders in collaboration with professionals from the legal, communications, and technology fields, Dra. Legal was created from the perspective of people who need to deal with a legal case but do not interact with the legal system every day.
The platform tracks case developments and delivers relevant information to users via WhatsApp in a more organized and accessible way. The goal was not simply to create another case-search platform, but to help people identify what truly deserves their attention at each stage.
For this reason, the project did not begin with the routines of law firms or legal departments. It began from the perspective of someone who receives a notice, opens a document, or checks a case and does not know exactly what it means.
A Character as Part of the Experience
While developing the platform, we realized that the user experience would depend on more than the features we offered. The way the tool presented itself would also influence whether people felt confident using it, returning to it, and seeking the information they needed.
That realization led us to create the Dra. Legal character: a lighthearted, approachable, and reassuring figure capable of softening the coldness that often accompanies legal information.
The inspiration came from the feeling of talking to a trusted lawyer who is also a friend or relative—without worrying that you might be bothering them, exposing a personal matter, or asking a question that seems too simple.
The character is more than a visual element. She embodies the experience we wanted to create: a space where users feel comfortable following their situation with greater confidence and peace of mind.
When Clarity Becomes More Than a Detail
In a court case, failures in follow-up are not always the result of negligence. Missing a deadline, misinterpreting a notice, or failing to recognize the importance of a case development may simply result from unfamiliarity with a technical and specialized system.
When technology helps reduce this kind of difficulty, its impact goes beyond convenience.
It can help prevent people from being harmed by mistakes that arise not from bad faith, but from a lack of knowledge or experience with legal procedures.
Software such as Dra. Legal supports users in countless ways while also benefiting society as a whole.
Our institutions do not want to have to penalize mistakes caused by unfamiliarity with the legal system, simple oversight, or missed deadlines.
At the same time, applying the law requires care and rigor.
Technological tools that make it easier for these requirements to be met are essential to the continued evolution of the legal system.
Dra. Legal gives you a clearer understanding of your legal situation, helps you keep track of documents and deadlines, and sends you WhatsApp notifications whenever something requires your attention.
In other words, instead of messaging the law student in the family, you can turn to Dra. Legal. She has more time available than we do—trust me.
